The one thing I noticed that ran through all of these is that each of these leaders did not adopt things carte blanche but adapted them to meet the needs of the people with whom they were working and collaborating. There are many great ideas that are used but whatever one decides to do, it's important, IMO, that it meets the needs of the people.
As an administrator who has moved a number of times, my experience is that it's as important to get to know the people in the context of the work they are doing and build relationships as it is to have a vision and plan. I was overwhelmed with the changes that were happening in education and I felt like I was always behind the eight ball. Then the 21st Century Educator role was offered to me. I was reluctant to take it but nobody else really wanted to do it at our school. When this year started I was doubting myself that I could succeed at this role. You were patient and kind and allowed me to work at my own pace. As time went on and as I worked through the modules I began to feel more confident. I never would have thought that I would be using the tools that I am using now to engage students and to foster learning. I never would have thought that I would have the courage to video tape my class and share it with colleagues to gain feedback in order to become a better teacher. I have a long ways to go on this journey but I am inspired and energized. Thank you for being a great leader and for helping me "get on the bus" to the rest of my career.
ShariAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17636908978282449222noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-811225551200555414.post-18598870712955176962014-05-14T19:19:53.379-07:002014-05-14T19:19:53.379-07:00Thanks for the encouragement. My first class (in summer of 2011) was ETAD 802....and cracking open that text book opened a flood gate of terms and people that I hadn't heard of since my undergrad ed psych days.

I was overwhelmed by a feeling of inadequacy - it felt like I was the only one joining the pack mid-stream - but others in the class (like you) made me feel welcome. I eventually (didn't take long) found my voice and realized that I too had something worthwhile to say and to contribute. I'm in the mid-point of my journey right now and loving every minute.

Thanks for the great reflection!
JeffAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-811225551200555414.post-64266763360017863822011-08-24T22:08:23.069-07:002011-08-24T22:08:23.069-07:00Really like the interface on FlipSnack.
